Re: New recruits - Antonius - 03-03-2007

Well here we go. My name is Anthony and I am 26 from New York (USA). I have been interested in Roman history for as long as I can remember. It is part of my heritage being Italian. I am a sport fencer and am looking into Roman reenacting. I have not however been able to find a group on Long Island near me. I so yearn to wear the uniform of a legionnaire. Well I have to get back to work so I'll talk to you all soon.

Antonius

Hi Anthony,

Welcome to the forum. I bet there are some groups in your area.

Could you please use your real name in your signature?

Re: New recruits - TITVS SABATINVS AQVILIVS - 03-04-2007

Salue Antonius, and ciao!

Well, to reenact roman army it's not necessary join to a group, many of the RAT members reenact individually and periodically go to events to meet the others. As Robert has told there are surely some groups in your area, and events to attend too. Stay tuned on RAT...

Go there: [url:jwhuapri]http://www.larp.com/legioxx/

This huge and well done website is able to satisfy many of your first questions about the roman reenactment, mainly for the first century of the empire, here you can find a list of american (and worldwide too) roman legions groups of any period.

While for the late part of roman Empire go to the fine and rich Robert's (Vortigern studies) website:

Vale,

Quote:hello everyone. I attended the Pompeii event in Mobile, Alabama roughly two weeks ago. I had a great time and look forward to the next event! Also, I am glad to be here and hope to learn a lot and make many friends.
Rome in Alabama... what a paradoxical pairing. Having spent three years in Montgomery I must confess I find it challenging to picture legionaries marching across the landscape. Glad to have you here.

Quote:I'm an advanced PhD student in Classical Archaeology at Brown University. I'm currently working on my dissertation, which will, fortune willing, be an interesting and innovative piece of work concerning the burial practices of the Roman military during the empire.
A fascinating subject. I look forward to reading your dissertation after it's published!

Welcome Mikael - Primitivus - 03-10-2007

Quote:Back then, the only group I could find was some weird elderly people that seemed to be more intrested in orgies and the roman sex-life and believed that romans ate live mice as dessert. (Yes, they were from US and had a firm belief that Sweden was actually a place in Oklahoma).
Smile Allow me, on behalf of all Americans, to apologize... God-willing, the tribe to which you refer has since become extinct! Welcome.
