Quiz - Jona Lendering - 01-06-2013

That's very gentlemanlike, so I will reply with a VERY easy question. This is a place in Lebanon. Bronze Age walls to the left, remains of a Crusader tower near the harbor, in the background. Where can this be? And which famous ancient visitor had to wait on this very spot for a month?

Byblos?

Maybe Arados?

Quiz - D B Campbell - 01-07-2013

Quote:The new photo was taken about hundred kilometers to the north.
... which would be round about Beirut (ancient Berytus)? I suppose Titus must have hung around here in November AD 70 before returning to Rome in triumph. But I have a nagging feeling that he is not the person you mean.

Quiz - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-07-2013

Byblos is about 100 km north...

Quiz - Jona Lendering - 01-08-2013

Quote:Byblos is about 100 km north...
Yup, it's Byblos. The famous visitor was Wen Amun, who wrote one of the most interesting texts from ancient Egypt.

Over to you Byron.

Didn't Evan mention Byblos about three posts back?

Quiz - Jona Lendering - 01-08-2013

Quote:Didn't Evan mention Byblos about three posts back?
Yes. Sorry Byron. (Possible explanation: I have a fever.)

Over to you Evan!
