Can anyone help, please? - LindaGruchy - 10-22-2012 Thank you, Brien, but I have already got someone doing a picture for me, now, so will not need your help, thanks. Can anyone help, please? - LindaGruchy - 10-22-2012 Another question, please... what's the plural of thraex? And the plural of retiaria and secutrix, please? Groan. The devil is in the detail. Can anyone help, please? - john m roberts - 10-22-2012 The plural of Thraex is Thraeces. Plural of secutrix would be secutrices. Not sure about retiaria. Can anyone help, please? - LindaGruchy - 10-22-2012 Thanks for those. I will amend the ms with those. I wondered if it might be retiariae? Can anyone help, please? - M. Demetrius - 10-23-2012 The singular (if the gladiator is a male, of course) is retarius--meaning "net man". Plural would be retarii. If female, retaria, I guess. And retariae. It is the tale of a charioteer falling in love with a gladiatrix. Not knowing about the existence of "Gladiatrix" I made some rough sketches similar to the book of Russell Whitfield, as I found out much later. Whitfield had them (the gladiatrices) fighting naked. Gaius Germanicus (Caligula) could have invented that. Domitianus, I am not so sure. Could you name to me the garments of a gladiatrix? I would be very grateful. |
