Roman lamps - jvrjenivs - 10-13-2004

Ave,

I was thinking yesterday about how to have some lamps in the camps at night in the Roman army.

Do someone know what they used. Before your tent you can have a fire, but not if you gonna walk. Did the Roman legions had a kind of Mag-Lite?
Salve,
Oil lamps were used (lucernae), commonly, pottery ones, but there were also luxury bronze lamps.
We had a thread over in RomanCivTalk a while back. Seems someone has actually written a book on it, though I've not seen it.
