Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Sassanid - 05-04-2005 Hi Paul, very nice indeed. Is Comitatus coming up to Arbeia at the end of June? On the greaves. I know Vegetius advocated their use for the front rankers in his time, "The Dominate, P167 of B&C". Andrew Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Mithras - 05-04-2005 Thanks Andrew, saved my bacon there, I was searching out evidence I was sure I'd seen somewhere! There based on the Kunzing hoard greaves (3rdC) but I don't know of any later examples found in the archaeological record I could replicate. My sword is suspended by a sword belt I put on before I put on my belt. I believe this is the way Stilichio is portrayed on that famous tryptych. Suspension from the wide-belt rings or from a narrow baldric is attested, too, I think. The scarf, again I'm sure I've seen pictorial evidence - but as Lucius says, it is a Roman piece of kit which sees practical and adaptable and which I'd really really miss if I didn't have. You've got me thinking now, Theo...! :? Augustean Legionary - maritimus - 05-04-2005 Salve, this is my roman impression... I am very proud of the belt plaques, which have been made by my dear friend Avitianus, (I only attached them to the belts), and the hamata has been degalvanized with vinegar...guess who did it? ....yes! Faventianus soon we'll publish the photos of this last weekend in Madrid, at primagermanica.com Toni MarÃÂÂn Miles LEG I GER - TIBISIVS - 05-04-2005 Hello Maritimus!! Congratulations for your equipemnt and your determination to inprove it. Continua aixÃÂÂ. Your Optio Tibisivs Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - FAVENTIANVS - 05-04-2005 OÉ! OÉ, OÉ OÉ!!!! These are my comrades! I'm so proud of'em! Keep on going!! 8) Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - aitor iriarte - 05-05-2005 I think that it is 'official' that our groups will be together at Centcelles during 'TÃ rraco Viva'. It will be a big, big fun! Aitor Focale - Viventius - 05-05-2005 As well as protecting from sunburn, I often dip my neckscarf in water before putting it on, which helps keep cool. There are some more pictures of Late Romans (Comitatus) at: http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/sgnuk/ ... CBxB.Hp_Dd A couple of photos were taken in the evening, but for the most part they were taken on the Monday (when Mithras wasn't there!). The soldier line-up was just before the finale with other groups (Napoleonics and assorted cavalry) so some chose not to put their armour on. Oh, and there are some civilian pics too hock: Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - FAVENTIANVS - 05-05-2005 Yes, a lot of fun, all dressed up! Good pictures Viventius! republican - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 05-06-2005 And now a new ones form the second punic war times: It's comiles Kessetanus. Honour Him! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 05-06-2005 Quote:It's comiles Kessetanus. Honour Him!Hail Kessetanus! See you at Archeon in July! Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Mithras - 05-16-2005 This horseman in the Great Hunt mosaic looks like he's wearing a scarf. If its a cloak I see no brooch, and no cloak trailing below the shield. Neuraleanus blowing his own horn - Neuraleanus - 05-17-2005 This is from the recent RomanDaysNE in Woodstock, CT. More phots may be found at: http://66.66.131.145/roman/RomanDaysNE2005/ Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Magnus - 05-18-2005 How well does that thing work Lee? Great picture! With the title I half expected your head to be between your own legs though...he hee! The cornu gives a nice deep tone - Neuraleanus - 05-18-2005 This is Deepeeka's revised version. Some assembly is required. You need to sweat solder the three brass sections together. It helps to know how to play a trumpet. As it is, I can get a nice steady tone from the instrument. Not bad, considering how cheap it is. Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Marcus Germanicus Ferox - 06-01-2005 [img] Salve chaps Enclosed my impression of a 1st century Auxilliay- constructive comments only please |
