Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 07-30-2012 Later Roman Soldiers, an officer, the executioner, and a guard, discuss the fate of the prisoners. My new dished oval shield is a great piece of kit, really like it. The scale gorget is from Al' hamad trading. Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Virilis - 07-30-2012 Very nice, Byron! Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 07-30-2012 Thanks Virilis! Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Caballo - 07-31-2012 Byron and Crispus, looking great! Byron, very much like the scale gorget- looking very Gothic! ( like the latecRoman soldier found buried in Gloucester, now established genetically and by grave goods as a Goth). Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Pointer - 07-31-2012 Hello Kevin... Do you have a pattern for that tunic? Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 07-31-2012 Thanks Paul, was wondering what other evidence there was for these, apart from the Carlilse find. Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - John M McDermott - 08-01-2012 [attachment:1]IMG_3567.JPG Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - John M McDermott - 08-01-2012 [attachment:1]IMG_3567.JPG Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - John M McDermott - 08-01-2012 Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - M. Demetrius - 08-01-2012 Nice kit, John! Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - john m roberts - 08-01-2012 John, Is that a Kalkreise seg with brass edging on the plates or is that just a trick of the light? Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Caballo - 08-01-2012 Byron wrote "Thanks Paul, was wondering what other evidence there was for these, apart from the Carlilse find." I'm not aware of any other scale gorget finds (though there is a solid gorget find shown in Bishop and Coulston, and also the possible parallel of gladiator protection). In sculpture the Alba Iulia statue is ambiguous, but I suspect is a scale coif? So at this moment, the Carlisle find may be the only one.....for the moment! Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Gaius Julius Caesar - 08-01-2012 OK, thanks. I thought by reference to the Goth, you meant he was buried with a gorget! ad: Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Robert Vermaat - 08-01-2012 Quote:Later Roman Soldiers, an officer, the executioner, and a guard, discuss the fate of theNice one Byron! What's the shield design based on? I see that the men beside you are wearing what looks like the 'standard Late Roman equipment' of the Forteenth? Re: Show here your Roman soldier impression - Quintus Aurelius Lepidus - 08-01-2012 this is me: as a legionary as a marine |
