Yes this looks very convincing.

What period is this? 1 or 2 AD?
And what is a cavalry explorator?

A scout on horseback Smile (cavalerie verkenner)

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - jvrjenivs - 06-09-2008

Period: middle to late La Tene, as I'm right.

I' ve build this, 1st century ad, impression around finds from our region (Noord-Brabant) and other parts from the Netherlands and Belgium (Brabant and Flandern).

This with help from different books like :

Studien zur Romischen Schwertbewaffnung in der Kaiserzeit. 2007
Armed Batavians. 2007
Forum Hadriani (Van Romeinse stad tot monument) 2006
Roman Military clothing (1) 2002
Berichten van de Rijksdienst voor het Oudheidkundig Bodemonderzoek volumes 1950 to 2007.
Some artefacts which are in our depot.

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Folkert van Wijk - 06-09-2008

So... when I check out the belt I say first century AD!
Right :?: :?:

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - jvrjenivs - 06-09-2008

Ow, I based my dating on your shield. So, mid to late first century?

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - garrelt - 06-09-2008

I have chosen this shield because parts of it, the rim, were found in my own country.
If i had taken a round shield the first remark could be: why do you have a Viking shield with your Roman clothing.
This impression is also inspired by a grave stelle from Germany, see attachment.

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 06-09-2008

Looks very good. Probably more close to the reality than the stereotyp of auxilar like a legionary but with round shield and spear.

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Ceasar Augustus - 06-09-2008

I like both, great job you guys!

Re: Show here your roman soldier impression - Peroni - 06-11-2008

Mark (Marcus Germanicus Ferox) asked me to post this picture of his auxiliary impression taken last weekend...
