The Fate of the Ninth - D B Campbell - 04-10-2020 Not sure if we're allowed to advertise books here, but some folks might like to know that The Fate of the Ninth is now available for download to Kindle. Could be helpful if you're stuck in the house (and particularly if your postie is stuck in the house, too). US Kindle Bookstore | UK Kindle Bookstore | Australia Kindle Store | Deutsch Kindle-Shop | Kindle-Tienda española | Canada Kindle Store | etc. (I also added some bonus material. Just because.) Apologies to our Dutch colleagues. I didn't realise that there is now a dedicated Netherlands site as well: NL Kindle Store RE: The Fate of the Ninth - Legate - 04-22-2020 I have been informed that another book on the disappearance of the ninth legion is due out soon. The book will apparently dismantle the claims that the legion was destroyed in northern Britain. For other people, the Ninth is twice recorded as being nearly wiped out in Britain. The first time during the Boudican revolt and the second in the Mons Graupius campaign. If they had said "lead formidable" unit, it could be believed. Great video where for once I leant a lot more without a lot of rubbish being included. Indeed, the only error was to call the Scottish tribes "Pictish", which shouldn't be used before 297AD. And just to be totally pedantic ... of course they weren't Scottish until centuries later. Unfortunately I could not make out all of what was being said because of the "atmospheric" music and background "battle" noises swamping my hearing aids. Had to use the subtitles. Had not heard of the "sway beat" and "nervy" tribes nor the "garlic war" or the "battle of probate" where "the boy and tulingi" arrived to force a stalemate. Did you know that "in 58bc hello fly a german (sic) tribe named the swabi under arya vistas ..." Want a laugh? Watch without sound but with subtitles and you will see what I mean. |
