Re: NO WAY!! - Praefectusclassis - 10-04-2003

Welcome both to the board! It's indeed a very nice website you have there Andy. But are there any links to RAT or romanarmy.com?
And now we're into spelling, Togaman, did you really mean to say "Defeated Rome!"? (because Victorious Rome would be Roma Victrix)
Greets
Ago tibi gratias, Jaspere!

I came in to correct a few spelling flaws. And let that be a lesson to us all! Never trust the movie Gladiator about anything! Now I'll laugh even more every time I have to watch it with a class.
Hello.

I have no degree in History -- just a guy who is fascinated with everything Roman and of the antiquity around it.

I look foward to debating and disputing with all of you!

Newcomers, Legio XX in DC - richsc - 10-10-2003

Salvete! well, if you happen to be in the DC area just for summers, we have Roman Days in June. If you're interested in starting slowly, you certainly can. We have one new person who's going to build his lorica with us over this winter, so we can build most anything. We have fabrica the first Saturday of almost every month too.
Legio XX
Salve Caius! Have you been in touch with Caius Fabius too? Up there in Oklahoma (waves vaguely to the north).

Re: NEW RECRUITS - Anonymous - 10-25-2003

Greetings! I'm just a guy who loves history, and has a strong interest in ancient history. Actually all historical periods interest me, and that turns out to be a weakness.. it dilutes so much of my attention that I end up not knowing enough of any one time period for my liking! lol

Anyway, I stopped by here to see what I can learn. It seems my old high school latin teacher gets the last laugh.. I read the newspaper in her class instead of learning latin, and now I regret it. (Sorry Ms. Harmon!)

I live near Baltimore Maryland, and I hope to visit the next LegioXX get together. I admit I am fascinated with re-enacting, but I am not sure how much time I could devote to it.

This is a great community you folks have here, and I am looking forward to learning as much as I can!
Re: NEW RECRUITS - richsc - 10-26-2003

Salve Sontor! Yes, my high school Latin teacher is still around, and much amazed that I do Roman stuff still. I hope you can make an event (not much till next spring) or a fabrica (once a month) or Lupercalia in February (still deciding on dancing girls or some thing).
Legio XX
Re: NEW RECRUITS - Anonymous - 10-29-2003

Ave commilitones!

Well, I´m a historian living in Porto Alegre, the capital of Brazil´s southernmost state...
Although interested in all historical periods, my "weakness" is ancient and medieval military history - spartans, romans, vikings and templars, just to name a few. I´d love to reenact any of these, but there are no reenactors here But that doesn´t keep me from gathering all information that comes up - even because I do own a small collection of original/replica military gear, and want to get the best (that is, most accurate) items available...
That´s it... I´m here to learn as much as I can, while having some fun in the process

Salue Marcus!

Welcome! No re-enactors in Brasil? Why don't you start a new group: maybe a late roman army one? You can ask to Aitor Ariarte for informations about the late Empire army equipment.
