Thank you. :wink:hmmmmmmmmmm years ago when i were young and wore my cuir boille to a dress up party i was attacked with a a kitchen knife by a drunken chef and we were all quite surprised at how easily it went through my scales and we sobered up just a tad and on the what is the lino made of (with the current discourse favouring leather) i made a leather one years ago but felt that it was not tough enough when i fought in it as blows were transmitted right threough it, however, since i rivited a failied iron cuirass inside it- in a sort of makedonian echo -I feel invincible. just a thought regards richard Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 11-23-2010 Clarifications: - Its hide covered with thin leather. - Its heavy. If the armorer promise not to kill us we are going to test it with the crossbow Richard can possibly get answers or get more confused in the linothorax threads. kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - M. Leather over metal would be better against blades, no doubt. It seems to me that it would be difficult if not impossible to keep rust from forming on the metal under the leather, though. Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - hoplite14gr - 11-23-2010 Tower is a watch tower from the 13th/14th century. (period of the Duchy of Athens) It is located in Marcopoulo NE of Athens near the new airport. It was built over the foundation of an ancient watch tower-hence the square shape. (Medieval towers in Eastern Europe were round by that time) So because of its square shape fits nicely for an ancient "action setting" Kind regards Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - John Conyard - 11-23-2010 That is interesting information. I too like that tower. We need to see the armour as integral with the shield, and the aspis is a serious bit of kit. The archaeological evidence is lacking, inconographic evidence is very limited, and writing evidnce can be misleading. But I am willing to believe that bthe cuiras is composite, and frankly I would be attaching every bit of metal I could to my leather base. It does worry me why such bits of metal were not used more for display, rather than presumably hidden by leather and even linen. But I do believe they were there. Re: Show here your Greek warrior impression - M. Demetrius - 11-23-2010 I was talking about the 9mm projectile proving the armor wasn't nearly thick enough. Too subtle. My fault.  |
