Sources! Early republic!
#1
I am looking for the original texts(translated ofc Big Grin ) on the early-middle republic!
All I can find is Dionysius, Polybius and Livius! Where's the Roman Thucydides I'm looking for?

Btw should the names of the greeks be Dionysios and Polybios rather than with -us affix(which seems latin to me...). Help me out you Latin/Greek nerds out there! (yes I'm jealous!)
Cheers,
Jesper

As far as I know, there weren't any. Greeks started to be interested in the Romans in -III, and in -II and -I Romans first began to translate Greek literature into Latin and then write their own. This was a big cultural shift, like the adoption of Greek rhetoric and philosophy. Fabius Pictor, who wrote in Greek around 200 BCE, is the oldest Roman historian who we know about, and his work is lost. Accounts of events before -III had to be pieced together from inscriptions, a few official documents such as magistrate lists, popular legends, and the oral traditions of leading families. Which is all very frustrating, because we know how unreliable such sources tend to be.

Diodorus Siculus also covers early Roman history but in a very brief fashion. You can find a translation on the Lacus Curtius website.
Nullis in verba

I have not checked this forum frequently since 2013, but I hope that these old posts have some value. I now have a blog on books, swords, and the curious things humans do with them.

I was thinking of all of them, but I found all that info on that site(should have been there already as I have been pointed in that direction before, excellent site!). Thanks!
