Does anyone know if the owner of the Museum is involved with the Shoumen Museum,
as there does not seem to be a contact e-mail on the website or if the artifact is indeed still on display there?

Having made inquiry in Bulgarian History Forum in the topic relating to our medieval history.
I received the following information.
Axe Group Light-axes.
Type 5 option B:
Number 587
LOCATION-Fortress IX - XI century-Stana, Shumen
Material and Metric Data- Iron, 150/178 mm
It was promised more information to me in a few weeks.

Byron: the measurements are for max height/max width. If you would want to draw a rectangle around it, in which the axe fits, these are the measurements. With a simple desktop ruler you can measure it's dimensions.

Right, I imagine that should be enough for a master weapons smith
to make an accurate reproduction then.

It is a lot smaller then I would have thought, by the way. The drawing does not really seem to match the picture, either. OK, the picture is sideways and the drawing from the top, but the cutting edge looks to have a distinct bevel and the spike in the drawing seems less wide. The decorations however would make it an expensive piece, then and now. I wonder if these were chiseled hot or filed and ground. Perhaps both, as the "rings" seem pretty uniform. Would have taken ages to make, as the decorations filled with niello are quite deep. Where does the silvering go?
