Scabbards
#1
SALVE

Do you know by true exemplars preserved how exactly are made the wood pieces of the scabbards? Are there carved or are thin sheets of wood curved? Or both methods?

I have make many reconstructed scabbards, so i know how I can make them. But i want to know how THEY did it.

Thanks

From a find in Holland (Leiden Museum) and several finds in the Museo Nazionale di Napoli which I have studied in de depot I'm sure the wooden parts were formed into shape. Two wooden plates were rounded on the outside and space for the blade was cut out on the inside.

Thanks!!

A lot of Pompei metal chapes are more rounded than plain. Probably is a fault of my reconstructions...I'll try to fix it.
