That may be very true for when I used to make these kind of masks my younger daughter would comment that they looked spooky, and I have to admit that when I would wear them they did indeed look a bit sinister.

In my opinion the oposing force of barbarian must have thought it were gods on horses which came the give them a beating. Or atleast that the romans had gods on their site, because what is it with an iron face on a horse??
