Show here your Roman soldier impression
Aetius, Jyrki & Robert--

Thanks very much for the compliments -- I take this as a very high honor from all of you, to whom I looked upon as my model Late Romans....

The "hound-chasing-hair" belt plate design is based on an actual belt plate in the MARS Collection; there was originally a second of the same design with a much larger, grooved border around it, similar to the replica plates I made, which were based on this plate; alas, the whereabouts of this plate are unknown at present.

Lorie Ann is holding the plate in one photo and another shot shows it next to a similar one illustrated in the book "Roman Buckles & Military Fittings."

These plates are usually dated to the late second to mid third century, so I might be stretching it a bit by having a Diocletianic soldier wear it, but I like the design so much I was willing to fudge a bit.

I finally went to my first event! I made the clothes and used loaner equipment. The clavi on the tunic did not turn out as dark as I would have liked, but a new dye should fix that. I wove the fabric from a warp weighted loom and dyed it myself. There's a linen under tunic. Everything is sewn with fine linen thread. A friend wove the Focale on a table top loom out of linen and wool.

I fell in with the 6th Legion in South Carolina. Big thanks to Rusty Myers for the loaner gear and providing a place to have a nice 1st century time travel experience.

Hey Gilbert, I like your sword very much, is it a standard model of a manufacturer or is it a custom piece?

Hello Graham. Glad to find you here.

Our troupe (PAX AUGUSTA) recreated the Legio V Alaudae (15 years), at the Caesar's time, and also in Augustus-Tiberius time (c. 20 AD). We also restore Etruscan warriors, at the beginning of the Republic, around 500 BC, and Gladiators (c. 30-50 AD).

The sword on the centurion is a model of Armillum, but the scabbard has been reworked. I am inspired an artifact discovered at Pitre, in France.
Sorry, I can't to view larger photos. I do surely wrong.
Also sorry for my bad English.
