Isnt that called ''The Eagle has landed?'' Where the germans landed to try and assassinate Churchill? Or is that a different film?[/quote]

yes ,i was thinking that was it.They tried to kidnap Churchill or something but ended up killing an impersonator.
Out of sight of subject shores, we kept even our eyes free from the defilement of tyranny. We, the most distant dwellers upon earth, the last of the free, have been shielded till today by our very remoteness and by the obscurity in which it has shrouded our name.

actually "Went the day well" is a propaganda film from 1942 or so ... but its not about an assasination attempt as in "The Eagle has landed"

WOW! Confusedhock: :? shock:

As the old saying goes, "There's nothing new in Hollywood." and so it would seem that The Eagle Has Landed had an earlier incarnation.

Very interesting... :?

Many great films listed here -- a lot of favorites.

As for the films I return to again for many reasons, listed in no particular order other than as they come to mind:

The Seven Samurai ("Kurosawa stags a final battle that is confused without being confusing.")

Chushingura (1962) A great historical event, a great kabuki play, a great film

Les Enfants du Paradis ("Be quiet! We can't hear the pantomime!")

Star Wars ("Will someone get this walking carpet out of my way.")

O' Brother Where Art Thou ("You boys are as dumb as a bag of hammers.")

The Big Sleep ("Looks like we're closed for the afternoon.")

The Lord Of The Rings ("A wizard is never late.")

Shakespeare in Love ("The tide waits for no man, but I swear it would wait for you.")

Searching For Bobby Fisher ("He is better at chess then you will be at anything in your life.")

Crimes & Misdemeanors ("You'd think no one was ever compared to Mussolini before...")

The Marx Brothers ("Hello, I must be going...")

As for Television fare...

The Outer Limits -- old tricks are the best tricks
I Claudius -- The way we wish ancient Rome had been
Prime Suspect -- simply great
Futurama -- "Good news everybody!"
Rome -- I know, I know...but sometimes even poor ancient Rome is better than no ancient Rome

... not in a particular order:

Alien II (ok, the others too)

... almost everything with Bud Spencer and Terrence Hill (quite popular here)

The Sicilian Clan ( Classic French gangster film with three greatest stars: Gabin, Delon and Ventura ... absolutely cool and really recommendable )

Escape from Alcatraz (gripping from the first minute, ... think I'm going to watch it later this day Smile )

Zulu Dawn

... the older Bond movies

Thin red line

The eagle has landed (!) ;-) )

Gettysburg

Kagemusha - Shadow of the Warrior (Narukami probably knows ;-) ) ... )

Geez, okay, I'm in. Maybe just my "top ten"?

Firefly/Serenity
Terminator, T2, T3
The Mummy, The Mummy Returns (RACHEL WEISZ)
Aliens, Alien
Conan
Apollo 13 (just last night, in fact!)
Batman, Batman Returns
Tomb Raider
Saving Private Ryan
The Wind and the Lion

Mind you, I do try to space these out with all the other stuff I have. I would watch Predator I and II, AVP, Kelly's Heroes, and probably Chicago if I owned them!
