Reminds me of a D-Day/Normandy veteran I spoke to, who said that the equipment they'd been issued was rubbish, and within weeks him and his mates were wearing captured enemy boots and civilian coats.
And a mate of mine who served in Kosovo said that many of his company ditched items of their kit before leaving for the zone and spent their own money in camping and survival shops... he joked that you could spot the SAS because they were the ones wearing Gucci gear at the airbases!!! :lol:
