Anyone in the Essex vacinity on the 16th and 17th of June should visit the Colchester Military Festival.
Everything from Greek Hoplites through to the modern army. The Colchester Roman Society and the RMRS (legio XIIII GMV et COH I Batavorvm) are providing the Imperial Romans, whilst Britannia are providing their excellent Gladiatorial display. Nigel Apperley will be there with his late Roman cavalryman impression. Eventplan say they are expecting 40,000 visitors this year!! http://www.eventplan.co.uk/CMF07.htm

Well, I am stuck up here, west of the shetlands. In thick fog. Mind you, will be here for another week and a half, regardless. Wish I could be there!

I'm still trying to convince him, I even told him how sexy his legs look in a tunica, but the flattery isn't working. Did the Ancient Romans have an equivalent of a press-gang ? My dad wants to join the Picts! I think it would suit him  Maximio wrote Quote:Absolutely Memmia, and with my intention to drive the civilian side forward it's time our Midwife made a reappearance. I dread to think what the birthing chair would look like! Besides, I think even the most battle hardened legionaries ears are way too sensitive for the curses uttered by a woman in labour.

Reminds me of that scene in the cowshed with that vet, Tristram in 'All Creatures Great and Small' MOOOO!!!! It looks like that midwife behind the woman is trying to squeeze it out using the Heimlich manoeuvre !
