Thanks for the message! I do like doing things myself, but I also like to spare myself some trouble... Example, I could never make my own shoes/sandles. But in turn, I could possibly sculpt armor... but if I formed it in styrene, it would probably be for naught.
However, I was hostimg a Halloween Party last Saturday and I was able to complete this "costume-quality" suit in ten days (how do I embed pics???). Well, follow the links to see my attempt.

It is not Legion-worthy, but it has perked my interest.
That said, it seems anything made from faux finishing is a no-no, at least on some of the Roman Forums I have seen thus far. Some detail... The shoulder segments are handicapped signs with metalizing paint. The chest armor was metalized styrene armor.
Perhaps I need to make a sub-group of background fodder troops in high-quality styrene armor. HAHAHA!!!
So really, what is funny and ironic is that I was asked many times if it is "real" armor at the party.
And I said "no, I just threw it together" over the last week or so. The helmet is a Made in India 18 gage steel helmet. The plume is artificial horsehair, but I probably need to start digging deeper on the DIY stuff. The Tunic was from Museum Replicas. As I mentioned, it was a speedy suit assembly.
I was going for a Maximus Decimus Meridius-look. I needed a wolf skin and a more dingy color palette, and a Greco-Roman helmet versus the Maize-styled helmet.
But, I have found this forum and I look forward to understanding more. I try when I am in the mood... note the screen-accurate sand trooper on the mannequin behind me!
Oh well, it is my first taste.
I look forward to the bus wheels! But go slowly. All in good fun!
Troop On!

Quote:While Film can be a good starting point there is usually something wrong[/img]
with the way they portray things, just take that all with a grain of salt as
it were and check with the scholars here before believing what may or
may not really be true.
Really Welcome and hope you have fun, I'm sure someone like Soul Of
The Warrior (SOTW) could make your dream of a 10 day outfit a reality if
you wanted to buy everything but if you want to make some of your gear
it will take more and cost more in LIFE denari. There are many skilled
artizans here and helpful merchants that would be happy to help you
create a Roman in 10 days or less.
Check out the products in the sections and see what every one as a
whole thinks of an item before you get it, if you have references to this
item from books etc, write them down for yourself for later so if ever
questions you can explane where your references are and why you chose
to portrey yourself this way, you will get great help from your local group
if you have found one near you, if not see if you can send time with a
group at events to gain knowledge and have a group of friends that can
help you with your representation or give you ideas of what time period
to chose as there is a large range of time periods to chose from.
