Quote:On Cable: The Bedford Incident. That "Fire one, aye!" was later shamelessly copied by Harold Coyle in his 1988 novel 'Sword Point' (the US and the USSR fight a war in Iran :? ). He slightly changed the story though to a setting on board a Soviet submarine in the Arabian Sea, trailing the USS Franklin. On page 124, a tired Soviet weapons officer mishears a sentence about a glass of tea ("give me one for the weapons officer") and fires a cruise missile ("One fired") into the carrier. The captain, realising the horrible mistake, orders all missiles fired immediately, to give his submarine a fighting change. The rest is of course the same as in the movie, although the missiles have only conventional warheads.
I had heard of this film but never seen it until it was on TCM late Wednesday night. I kept thinking I should turn this off and go to bed, but I just wanted to see what happens next... and next ... and next ...
