Heronbridge Strip Settlement c180 AD
#1
This is an example of an image created using CGI and photos, done for Dr David Mason. It was a test only so don't worry if you see yourself or some friends in there it was never used or published!

(Heronbridge II is the later post after comments made so look at Henronbridge Downtown first)

Nice. Must be tricky to get all the shadows going in the same direction, etc., when using photos and CG.

The difficulty is more the light direction, the shadows can be cheated, but you can always flip an image.

Don't mind at all as long as that's as far as it goes! It's not exactly print dpi quality. How did it come out?

As long as you don't flip the soldiers. In one of the museums in the Netherlands there's a movie on one wall with the ESG and such, and to get a better look they flipped the screen. (so all soldiers wear their gladius and shield on the wrong side).

Thanks, Gets me out of the north sea for a second or two though! 8)

The soldier and the small girl are well lit, but the girls dress could probably have more lighting highlights. as they seem to be the closest?
The soldier could do with a bit more shading effect too.
Every one else on the right are quite dark, I guess due to being in the shade.

Funnily enough, it's actually the soldier next to her that's wrong. If you look at the light direction it's coming from slightly behind the behind the girl, where as the soldier is almost front lit. There's also a building shadow over lower half. As I said, it was just a test... that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

I may give it a little more work and post again though, if I get the chance.

OK, here's another version of it (above). It's not perfect by any means and the road actually needs redoing completely to get the central drain channel, but it's... different.

Nice pics!
I´d just recommend that you put in soldiers that fit into the timeframe. Smile
The soldiers depicted belong into the first century AD, as far as I can see... Smile

Yes, I think they are. But, again, it was a test to show the technique to Dr Mason. Had we done it for real, and been paid to do it, I wound have asked for accurate reenactors who I could have photographed myself rather than grabbing whatever I could from the internet. But well spotted!

I've also posted elsewhere about the site itself:
