And wonderful it was indeed! An awesome sight to see an 80 strong testudo moving about, especially when the dust is moving around the legs of the men. Of notice was the presense of the emperor Hadrian, a far more amicable man than I could have imagined, truely bringing the man to life. His armour surpassed in spendour only by the empress. Two Lecticae to carry the noble ladies at the event, not seen anywhere outside the movies as far as I'm aware. A very welcome and befitting addition were the Praetorians from the Coh. II Praetoria from Italy. And also of notice, the smooth interaction between the many many legions from several countries, even from Danmark! What else? The French Leg VIII witnessed a transition of leadership; Primus Pilus René Cubaines was awarded for length of service, galantry and certainly not least of all his verbal performance as commentator. The new 'workhorse' to ensure the VIIIth's reputation of vigilance, formerly optio, was bestowed with the honor of the centurionate. Vitis, cresta and ocrae were amongst the practical presentations made to the man, Phalerae and formal roman torques amongst the more personal awards. Of special note was the honor presented to him by a local Gallic chieftain, who took his own torque off his neck and handed it over in respect. I'm proud to call the new centurio my friend and hope to sing many more songs with him at the campfires! 'Saturday afternoon ,everything's all right"
A true wealth of beautiful Roman noble ladies, several of them from the Nice family, Vestal virgins or camp followers from within the legions. Way too many interesting people to meet, an impeccably organised event, praise to Alain Nice and his people for making this happen once again. It was an honor.

I read the comments with which I strongly agree: one of the best and best-organized events of
recent years and probably also of the next. Magnificent.
Really I must say chapeau for Alain and Marie Therese, lovely people and great organizers.
We, COH II Praetoria, can be proud over the years for having given our small contribution to such a beautiful project.
Other than that, personally, I had the opportunity to meet again old friends like Paul Karremans, to meet personally
"living landmarks" of reenactment like Chris Haines, René Cubaines, Martin, the optio of
ESG and also Mike Garlick and several legionnaires and, last but not least, also one of the more active ratters: hello, Jvrjenivs!

Marle indeed was a wonderful event, though pretty hot. I liked the site, the big group and good working together of all. I had a nice time meeting real faces behind RAT accounts, especially Ilario and Munziano Planco. The shows were also nice. I especially liked those celts with the celting warchariot and the 6 roman cavalrymen of Gauthier Clerens and the ESG. Good also to meed the french gladiators and had a good talk with them. Got a lot new insights and friends

Hi All,
What a fantastic event,
In my opinion, some UK event organisers could take a leaf out of Alain Nice's book, in terms of how to put on a cracking event. The hospitality was excellent, the camaraderie and mutual respect between groups was (as usual at Marle) nice. Also the thing that was highly apparent at Marle was the lack of fuss and red tape and rules that seem to swamp the UK re enactment scene,In a typical French laid back manner, the event was easy going but nevertheless, efficient and well organised. So hats of to Alain and his dedicated team.
Also a 'big up' to the ESG for their after show antics in the marquee, it all added to the entertainment.
My only gripe, as a typical englishman, is my complaint about the weather! as a fair skinned Northerner, it was too HOT!!
Anyway must go and put on some more aftersun cream!
