Many thanks Jim glad you like it :lol: the hilt is now on Finished, just a good few layers of wax and polish to do and I can now say if the pointy bit does not do the job you can use the hilt as a club :grin: There is some weight in it :evil: here is the pics;
When it is all finished I can see a Cavalry Officer wearing this, Of all the studed hilts I think this is the nicest type, until the one with semi precious jewels turns up. I will start the scabbard in a week or so again work :x but I am looking forward to it will post

Chears Matt. I have had a quick look, it is a different type of stud work but it must be a fashion will need to study them
Here goes first I made the slide from bronze,
This what I started with from the right it is again from Vimose.
Finished and silvered, the origonal shows it had a fair bit of wear to it.

I then started the wheel chape, The origonal was made in Ivory so I did mine in horn. Also I had to scale it down as it was too big for a narrow scabbard.
As you can see the component pieces.
This with the pieces in place.
This scabbard mount was found on the portable antiquitys site and I silvered this also

Many thanks Marcellus, Robert, and Leonardo I am glad you approve :lol: Leonardo the blade is octagonal it just does not show up on the pics. I must admit it has taken 4 years to do, but the stud work is what took the time to think about. As with all things to be in the mind of the origonal maker to understand the concept of the idea and time to put into the pommel and hand gaurd. There are about 470 studs to bling it up, and thats what got me thinking to do it. It is a shame the hole handle was not found on a sword blade But it does give you a little free rein to put it on a blade :grin: I only need to do is a bit binding as I do not trust the nails alone and also there has been studs found next to the slide, Question has any one used studs or know how they were used to attach sword to a belt or baldric. Many thanks in advance :?

Now you told me it´s clear in the pictures. But you surely noticed how difficult is to do so many bevels in so small width. That´s why I did mine on the thicker side of the historical record: around 8 mm in the forte. To make room for a bigger angle and keep ridges notorious. I always wanted to know how defined are these blades near the point where the thickness is much reduced. Mine was about 4 mm, but entirely hypotetical.
It seems that the octagonal blade is the one that goes with this handle. Even not studed, there are very similar hilts with them
Many thanks Cesar Did you receive my email about scabbard binding? Leonardo I concur on the thicker blade if I do another blade I will use about 7-8mm. I must admit I have not seen this type of blade with a handle on them just a tang with a pommel nut. But I will trawl through the blades from Vimose for the next one :wink: I am going to do a Pompeii sword next :whistle: But I am always on the look out for the unusual sword.

I have ordered yellow, blue and red cord to do the binding with for the slide just need to see what colour looks best. I will make a belt for the sword I hope to do this this week I am looking at various buckles to do. Not too wide about 1" wide or so just would like a bit more info on the buttons for attachment of the belt to the scabbard.
Here are some of the various pics I used for the reconstruction
Back to looking at buckles.
