map of all Roman army museums & sites
#1
Inspired by whomever "Marcus Ulpius" is on FB RAT, I am exploring collecting all the museums having any Roman army artifacts into one Google map. Google allows only ten layers, so I'm puzzling how best to utilize the layers. Thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Great Idea, but in Germany it lists wrongly Yorkshire Museum but doesn't list any of the tons of Roman Museums which we have, to start with Cologne, Mainz and Xanten.

Thanks! There will be constant corrections and additions. Can you list the ones you know of so I can add them?

There are 84 museums in Spain that have Roman collections: does anyone know which of them have Roman army exhibits?

Thanks. Are the museums marked out? I will try to import the whole thing into Google maps but I will have to figure out how to import a KMZ file.

Yorkshire museum placed in Germany? I don't see that; is it there for you?

Which are your favorite German museums?

Thanks! As long as the name is correct, it shows up in Google Maps. Some have returned a number of hits, including hotels, so I have to be careful which to select. If I need to really certain, the address works best, but I have only used that approach once.

Hopefully I added them correctly.

If you know, what are some highlights from each museum? I can add some commentary.

I'll write down the full name of the city museum(MGML): Mestni muzej Ljubljana

national museum : Smihel hord (pilums etc)) , Ljubljanica river finds (swords etc),helmets, Claustra alpium iuliarium finds
MGML: local finds from Ljubljana with the finds from the local army camp, also oldest wheel(of course non Roman)
Dolenjski muzej: Roman helmets, but mostly focused on halstatt
Pokrajinski muzej Celje: great tour under the museum throu the ancient Celeia streets and walls, overall mostly small finds

Pokrajinski muzej Ptuj-Ormož, regional museum Ptuj - Ormož , finds from Poetovio with the 13 gemina camp finds and a few Mitra monumenst thru the town

checking for addresses I found this page on Slovenian museums, some of them have posted some pictures of their displays

Hi there....Museums to follow...
http://www.rammuseum.org.uk/
http://www.museumwales.ac.uk/roman/
Two of the best re. finds...Pugio scabbard @ Exeter
Shitloads @ Caerleon.
There are many others that are minor museums in my area, but they contain very important Roman gear.....ie, Taunton.....Scale Armour from Hamm Hill....etc...and Bridport Museum containing finds from Waddon Hill.
