Pizza segmentata, then what?
#1
Ok, so I was bleary eyed and misread a post to say "pizza segmentata". But then heck, we have our legion party coming up, and why not have REAL Roman food. None of this Apicius stuff. Aquila pie. Scutum chips.

Posca. Wait, no posca. Mons dewis. Grilled Murmillo.

Looking for suggestions.

Thanks! Looking for interesting juxtapositions of words like pizza segmentata that can inspire original cuisine. Think a rectangular pizza with bacon strips and yellow peppers for hinges.

When we launched the Corbridge Hoard book many years ago we had a cake shaped like a lorica segmentata (complete with all the fittings and little silver balls for the rivets) to celebrate. I have photos somewhere.

Share please!

My wife made me a biscuit cake last year for my birthday, referencing me digging (briefly) at Vindolanda a few weeks after. It was her first try at one so I think it came out pretty well Smile The soil turned out pretty cool too- when you sliced through it you got the effect of stratigraphy which actually turned out to be accurate for where I was digging! (Sadly no mosaics or urns of coins were found...)

I think a tasty plate of Placenta would go well with an afternoon tea cup of boiled water.

Makes me think of Charlie Chaplin eating that shoe. Would be a great item: eating the laces.

Some of these posts are a pip!

Someone should design a Pizza Segmentata Anchovina. You can glue anchovies along "plate"-edge. Then, when you're on the march, you'll never starve to death. :woot:
