Big 80\'s Music!
#1
Anyone into 80's music? I caught Big 80's fever this weekend.
In Hoc Signo Vinces

How many crosses..., it seems that the 80's fever be not your only fever...
Whats that supposed to mean (I have to admit, the signature ones are bigger than they were supposed to be)? The crosses represent the cross that Emperor Constantine saw in the sky, emblazened with the words "In hoc signo vinces" which means "In this sign, you shall conquer."
In Hoc Signo Vinces

That was evident...
Less (or not at all) evident is what really that arrant sly Costantinus saw or told to have seen: the rest is advertising for political purposes.
I was into 80's music in the 80's. It's still good.
OK.....? Believe him or not he had a huge impact on the world.
Anyways, Starship's Built this City has to be the greatest song ever.
In Hoc Signo Vinces

Oh yes, I also was there in the 80's and even during the second half of the 70's! Maybe the music was fresher during the 60's but I rather prefer more elaborate things.
We've already discussed about Constantine almost 'ad nauseam' on another thread and it would be better to leave him stay (for a while, at least!). Anyway, those big fiery crosses reminds me of something that doesn't want to come to my mind...
Aitor is right. Constantine isn't the topic of this thread. Stay on topic.
In Hoc Signo Vinces

Aaah yeah... the 80's you just have had to be there.

"We built this city" was cool. Some of my favorites are "Wild boys" by Duran Duran or "Through the barricades" by Spandau Ballet among many many others. Of course there is the album "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen, but this just happened to be published in the 80's this man is timeless.
Cheers,
Toto's "Africa" was cool too I think. You can't forget "Workin' for the Weekend" either. Men At Work's "Land Down Under" is another classic.
In Hoc Signo Vinces

Some of my favourites have already been mentioned but also U2 'Pride' (and the rest of their stuff), Foreigner 'I want to know what Love is', Simply Red 'Holding Back The years', Pink Floyd's 'The Final Cut'...just to name a few....

There are two or three radio stations in Massachusetts that play all 80's all night long on Saturday nights. It's good to tune in every weekend and get some nostalgia. I'm an 80's child, so I "grew up" with it, although I didn't actually get into it until College. I actually grew up with "Classic Rock" and Oldies, 1950's-1970's, which we kids listened to on the drive to grandma's for holidays. It was the only stuff everyone could agree on, and it stuck.

Glad to hear of a true Floydian out there, Anaten! Someone else thought of "The Final Cut" before mentioning "The Wall"!
Shine On!

I always liked "Right Round"/Dead or Alive, Tears for Fears, Genesis, "Sweet Dreams", "Rock Me, Amadeus", "Der Kommisar"....Muscially I've liked 60-70's for the Guitar work (Eric Clapton/God, David Gilmour, Lindsay Buckingham, to name a few) and 80's for the Synthesizers and beats/rythyms.
(the quick easy reasons anyway)

Have you seen "I Love The 80's" on VH1? That's a good taste of Nostalgia for ya!
Ah, 'The Final Cut' a good record but black as pitch!
It's a logical sequel of 'The Wall', the song 'The final cut' could perfectly have been featured at that double album!
'The Final Cut' is a desperate anti-war cry. The song on the Anzio bridgehead that Waters wrote for Parker's film 'The Wall'
is filled with that same spirit. It's a good present for us all that it has been included in 'Echoes'
And the Anzio bridgehead
was held at the price
of a few hundred ordinary lives'

please don't get me going on a Floyd rant

"When the Tigers Broke Free" is a great, rare song. And you gotta love the title...Tigers...hehe.

You know the album "Final Cut" had a working title during production, it was once nicknamed "Spare Bricks".

if you listen carefully to "One of the Few" and "The Hero's Return", you can hear elements of songs from The Wall.

Another rare song I'd like to hear again is the extended/movie version of "Empty Spaces"....Just don't want to sit through the movie right about now. Twice was enough for me

But enough of Floyd. It's all good with 80's music!
like, totally fer sure..Oh wait, I'm from MA: Wicked mint, ya know?
