And it will..... I began building a Greek Hoplite unit to debut at the Athens Oympics, along with my Italian friend Hector of LEG XXX in Albano. It did not happen because a Museum Director in Fort Campell Kentucky retired, and I had to take his place if I wanted to keep my military job, reporting in 45 days from notification. So farewell to Europe, but by great coincidence, ended up being stationed only 45 minutes from the Nashville Parthenon. The Nashville Roman event will probably become annual, but I am also working on a Greek event there too, so now have a good reason to keep working on the Hoplites.
I have been very busy getting established here so have not had too much time for hobbies, although besides Nashville, I just came back from Knoxville, where I had supplied most of the props for a new history channel production about "crime in ancient Rome", with a focus on the Praetorians, Vigiles and Urban cohorts. It was a lot of fun, and I am already being contacted for additional projects.
But back to the original subject of this thread, I now live in a hand-hewn, 1840's log cabin in the the woods in a place called Oak Grove, Kentucky, 10 minutes from the main gate of Fort Campbell, home of the 101st Airborne Division, who are largely the new recruits for LEG XIIII. My email is
[email protected] and my home phone is 270 640-8282. I'd like to come back to Europe, but it looks like the U.S. is closing up shop there. My old unit has already been alerted, so I wouldn't have stayed much longer anyway. The move was for the best, and the 101st is an exciting unit. I will probably go with them back to Iraq next year. My log cabin homestead is pretty neat too, quite big, really, and probably the only one in the U.S. completely furnished in Gothic Medieval furniture.
