Pilum on ebay, Yay or Nay?
#1
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI...89970&rd=1

I believe this is a Deepka item tho the seller doesnt say.
I heard Deepka pilum are mostly unusable...

I live in downtown chicago, so there is no way i can make one by hand, or even finish of these.

I also want to get good stuff and not need to do alot of upgrading in the future.

So is this pilum worth it? or is it a fantasy peice that would make the REAL Romans Gag?

I very much appreciate any advice!!

Thanks!
There are several places to look for Roman equipment. I had some of those once, but i gave them to a local church group for their Passion Play.
It looks like a good piece to me, not sure what sort of wood was used: we use ash as a rule. The price for that work is reasonable.
Legio XX
I thought it looked pretty good, Though I am a total newbie,
Personally, comming from the ww2 German hobby, I thought THEY had a bad looking fake problem, But just surfing the sites and this board I realize how damngerous it is to get into Roman reenactment without either...
A. a life time of research,
B. the help of you guys,
It looks good to me but it is a "heavy" Pilum with the weight on the shaft just behind the head of the wooden shaft. I would go for the light pilum exactly the same except for there being no weight. It is not known if the weight was lead or stone. The shipping on a light pila should be much less and you don't want to carry a heavy one.
