Sagum details
#1
Does any one have details about the finds in the bogs of the Roman military cloaks? I have seen a reference to details being published in Schlabof Eisenzeitliche Textilfunde o.ä. My understanding is that the cloaks are well made (currently +$2000 to make) with many bright colors woven into one tunic.
The Thorsberg cloak was reconstructed with a very complex blue-and-white plaid pattern. I don't know about any others, but I wouldn't expect this to be the rule. All pictures of sagum wearers I know from the Norethwest show them some shade of brown, probably undyed.

I have an excellent reproduction of one done by Holger Ratsdorf. It has a blue-green herringbone weave, with tablet weaves on the border of blue, green and yellow. The brown comes from being in the bog 2000 years. Chemical analysis is necessary to show what the true colors were. Really first rate! I can email you a picture if you will leave me your address.
How do I send you my e-mail without posting it to everyone? (Note: I trust the people here on the forum, but there are some rather sleazy spammers out there and I want to make things as difficult for them as possible.)
Thanks,
