Some of the surviving pilum heads are very long. Most reconstructions use the Oberaden pila as their model, but other, very different examples exist, many of which have been published since the end of the Cold War.

I made my tegimen mostly out of goatskin; the central part covering the umbo - out of cow sking, the ring and the ansata - out of pigskin. The ansata is constructed based on the actual findings - see the pics.

I have a shorter one as well. I prefer taking a longer pilum for demonstrations, since when I put it against a shield, it makes a more vivid impression how far can it go through the shield wounding the warrior.
