Hi

I live in North Shields in northern England. I'm surrounded by Roman heritage. I've always been interested in Roman history since my grandfather took me to Hadrian's Wall when I was in primary school. As a child living in the countryside I often played next to a Roman road and hillfort. Seeing archeaologists excavating in the field next to my house influenced me to go into archeaology. Since then I have worked on Hadrian's Wall, Segedunum Roman Fort and most of interest at Arbeia Roman Fort.
It was at Arbeia in 1988 that I joined Cohors Quinta Gallorum, a newly started group based onthe regiment that was stationed there. Since then I have became a fanatical re-enacter. The group does the 3rd century which appealed to me as it was totaly different to others which I had seen. I have made over 7 shields using natural mterials, numerous hob nailed boots and 6 suits of scale armour, 4 of which are of the locked type. Presently I'm making another locked type of scale armour using scales 10 mm wide, 28mm long.
