We are out in Washington State and Oregon. A bit more room to ride and play. There aren't many reenactors in the area, but it's changing. Dean Cunningham is doing LEG II AVG across the river in Portland and is getting going with new folks. I'm just getting started out with actual reenactment as opposed to SCA stuff which simply in the same class at all (but we're improving at least in our own encampment). Dean is an excellent armorer so LEG II AVG really has a leg up with him around.
At present i'm still using stirrups. transitioning to a roman saddle and no stirrups is a bit scary. It may be a long summer. Right now there are only two equestrians doing this around here but i'm hoping to start drawing some interest once my kit is looking sharp.
Right now i've got a nice romano-sassanid ridge style spangen, tunica, feminalia , oval shield and caligae and an hand forged spear head on a 1" x 6' shaft. My chain vest is ratty and needs some work before I put it on and I haven't decided whether I want to do a musculata, plumata, squamata, hamata or just a lamellar body piece (did I use all the cool words?)
I'll be making a draco standard this year too!
