Re: "Frankish" seax scabbard NEW PHOTOS - Sascha - 07-26-2008 Feel free to do so... It is a bible of the first half of the 9th Cent. Maybe created near Paris, today France. Re: "Frankish" seax scabbard NEW PHOTOS - Theodosius the Great - 09-14-2008 Hi Iagoba, Quote:NEW PHOTOS: Do you know anything about the spatha on the left side of the display case ? I think it may be a 6th century Frankish spatha but I'd like to get a closer look at the hilt. The spatha looks like it may be the same one seen in this old drawing. The hilt looks like it's made of two rectangular pieces, a smaller one mounted atop of a larger one, IMO. Thanks for posting these photos ! ~Theo Re: "Frankish" seax scabbard NEW PHOTOS - Iagoba - 09-14-2008 The sword was found in a grave in Bräunlingen, as the display "caption" says: [url:3g2mspcf]http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/cc320/iagoba_f/basel/seax_colombi/SL370918.jpg[/url] But the handle is incomplete, not as in the picture. Re: "Frankish" seax scabbard NEW PHOTOS - Theodosius the Great - 09-14-2008 Thank you, Iagoba. Though the handle is incomplete, I'm convinced of the drawing's accuracy given that everything else shown is 6th century Frankish weapons. Laudes for you. ~Theo |
