Re: New recruits - caiusbeerquitius - 03-28-2008 Quote:Very true thats all it took the Allies once the U.S. joined them, to take care of Festung Europa and Japan.Yes, and exactly the amount of time it took the US to withdraw from Vietnam. AND exactly the amount of time it took Caesar to conquer Gaul. AND exactly the amount of time it took Marcus Aurelius to win his war against the Markomanni. AND exactly the amount of time.... There must be a secret plan somewhere in this.... Re: New recruits - Salvianus - 03-28-2008 Quote:  Hey, a lot can happen in four years! You're not kiddin': I'll take 306, 378, 410 and 476 A.D. Re: New recruits - Decius - 03-29-2008 Quote:Decius:20615wyb Wrote:I'm not into re-enacting, yet.Hi! alright ! Re: New recruits - Marcous Drallious - 03-29-2008 Well I live in the Untied States. I think that will pose as a problem. Re: New recruits - Aetius Helvius Merula - 03-30-2008 Not if someone else pays your airfare. If they do, let me know and I'll join you Welcome, Kyle! Re: New recruits - Theodosius the Great - 03-30-2008 Quote:AND exactly the amount of time it took Caesar to conquer Gaul. What ?! How do you figure that ? I always read that it took 8 years to conquer Gaul and MA was constantly at war with the Marcomanni for well over a decade ... :? Both of these wars were concluded at lightning speed by the Romans' standards and they had a free hand in which they conducted them (i.e. no "human rights" to worry about, etc). Dacia took decades to conquer, Spain took over 2 centuries, and the Punic Wars lasted over 100 years. Multigenerational wars seem to be just as common as shorter wars, at least during the Republic and early Empire. ~Theo Re: New recruits - caiusbeerquitius - 03-30-2008 My posting above was not too serious. :o ) re - caius matinius mattius - 03-30-2008 salve! I am christopher mattingly (caius matinius mattius) of the xiiii legion in the glorious area of oregon. I am a soldier in the US army and have been for the past 6 years. I have many years under my belt as a living historian for the American Civil War, The Revolutionary War, and The 1745 Jacobite risings. I started my interest in ancient rome when i was in iraq and picked up a copy of colleen mccullough's the grass crown. Thank you ahead of time for the help you will provide to this "fresh fish" of the legions. chris mattingly Re: New recruits - Senovara - 03-31-2008 Welcome to RAT Chris! |
