Re: New recruits - Jesenko Hadzihasanovic - 04-29-2008

Hello?
I kind of stumbled here, and decided to stay...
I am kind of proficient in Republic and Empire army of Rome... but there is still room for improvement.
And i want to learn about Greek, Macedonian and Persian army as i lack almost basic knowledge of those (expect of Greek one, but it is still quite basic)

Welcome to the board Rodger, Claire, Jayo and Jesenko! Smile

Rodger, i noticed you live in San Jose. I lived there for many years before retiring and moving to Oregon and starting a Roman group (small so far) up here.

Re: New recruits - titus ferrum - 05-02-2008

Salve!

I am an architecture student and fascinated with learning all aspects of Roman civil and military engineering...could anyone tell me whether there are any 'army engineer corps' re-enactment groups that specialise in these skills?...many thanks in advance

Quote:Maybe the very one Alexander sat on in Babylon?

That is a very interesting thought. I've seen some other studies based on coins which may depict actual objects from antiquity. Glad to have you here.

Welcome Jesenjin and Titus!

Re: New recruits - Omar - 05-05-2008

After lurking for a few weeks, finally got around to joining. So, to answer some questions:

- where are you from?

The US, specifically West Virginia, though I currently reside in Colorado.

- how'd you become interested in Rome?

The worlds first professional military? What more is there to say? The Roman Legions have always interested me, much more so than the knights of later periods or the armies of the more modern age.

If I had to nail it down, it was when I first got into the LARP scene and loved the look of Lorica Segmentata. A few years later, Gladiator came out, and I decided to really get into it, joining the SCA and trying to join a reenactment group a few years later.

- why are you here?

To get more info for a late roman kit for reenactment and SCA use, as well as to check on good info for a 11th century Byzantine kit, also for reenactment and SCA use.

Plus, lots of good info on a variety of subjects.

- do you re-enact, are you a student, an academic professional, or..?

A little bit of everything (except the professional, I wish I could get paid fro this).

Started with various LARPs (Amtgard, Dagorhir, now Melee), joined the SCA at about the same time. Tried starting up a branch of a Roman Reenactment group in 2003, but couldnt get the interest needed and had to deal with some problems in my life, so that fell through. Wish I had known about it when I was in WV, would of been great to of hooked up with Matt Amt's Leg XX while I was close enough to.

Now, I am active in the SCA and wanting to branch out into a more authentic kit for that, as well as being able to participate and do demo's for roman reenactment.

Re: New recruits - Crocus - 05-06-2008

Hello everyone

just a quick note that I re-entered RomanArmyTalk after some years of retirement. Used to watch this forum since around 2001 and somehow got lost along the way.

Located in Germany/Rhein-Main, doing roman "reenactment" for some years by now.

valete!

Hey all - Julius Caesar Augustus - 05-07-2008

Hey everyone, I am returning to RAT after a long hiatus. My former name used to be Praetorian Raven on the ezboard.com forums. Sorry about the stereotypical name......it was the first truly Roman name that popped into my head at 3 AM.

So to start the Inquitsition:

- Where are you from?
North Texas, primarily the Fort Worth region.

- How'd you become interested in Rome?
I really don't remember much of my childhood, as that was before I got diagnosed with Cancer. What I can tell you is that everything about Rome intriques me to my core....their Army, Politics, Arts, Technology, Sciences, Mythology.....Everything

- Why are you here?
To continue my self studies of Ancient Rome and other ancient civilizations.

- Do you re-enact, are you a student, an academic professional, or..?
I am mostly a student, and an aspiring Historian. I collect swords as well. I am looking now for a high quality Gladius.
