JK!!!
BTW, you guys can have Detroit now, if you want it.

Welcome, and hope you have fun!

With others like you around how can one not have fun!

That is why I now do my hobby's its not foranyone else, its because I
want to have fun and learn a little. WIth people like you I know i will
laugh and learn as I go, Now to find a helm since the one upstairs in my
attic is a CLASSIC TROOPER.....(insert expletive here) that was bought
many moons ago, and is apparently decorative but not much else....

Big Grin

It is strange how the US doesn't like to talk much about that war....
But at least there are some Great reenactors from the states and
hay we let them win on Saturday, Sunday we kick their behinds...
Its all in good fun, and I hope that translates here as well, I'm sure
it will!

BTW Thanks for messing up Detroit and then offering it to us...

(No Offense meant to any residents of that fine city)
Since when was Canada even involved in the War of 1812? They were controlled by the British at that time.....who lost the war. Ever hear of the Battle of New Orleans?

A late hello, but I hope not too late :) - Fortuna - 10-29-2008

Hi everybody

My Name is Martina Mesan. I live in Switzerland between Agusta Raurica (Augst CH) and Vindnissa (Windisch CH), so it´s a pretty good situation if you decide to learn more about all the stuff around the roman history.

I was at this years "Römerfest" at Augst (CH) and I "fell in love" with the roman live.

Coming from a long fencing career (weapon: epee) I´ve decided to learn more about gladiators and their fighting style. So this is the reason I´m here; I just want to get in contact with nice people who adore the same things like me and who can explain me some things from time to time.

Just to say: I´m a beginner  , so forgive me if I make basic historical mistakes.

Looking forward to have a good time at RAT...

Re: New recruits - The_Mariner - 10-29-2008

Welcome to RAT both Fortuna and Marcus

There are some groups specializing in gladiators and there are some
that are for Roman life with soldiers, A good place to start is the links
pages or groups that you like and find a group near you, talking to groups
closer to you can often reveal a even closer group that may not have been
on a list, check around, ask questions, we are all always learning ourselves
so there are no DUMB questions, the only bad questions are the ones you
did not ask and trouble you still.

Welcome and Have fun!

Welcome - fasta - 10-29-2008

Welcome Martina,

You will find lots of information about the different Roman periods ,Pre Republic,Republic and Imperial etc. When looking for periods it helps to narrow down the dates as what you are looking for they may have a period of change involved. Please don't discount the military weapons training and their use.

Hope you enjoy the site and I'm sure you will find it useful.

PS. I'm jealous of your fencing career.

Re: New recruits - Gluteus Maximus - 10-31-2008

Salve, I am Gluteus Maximus and I reconstruct Roman buildings - civilian and military - in 15mm scale, using archeological plans and up to date research. I am very active on the UNRV site where I have the name of 'Northern Neil'. I just discovered this excellent site a few nights ago, and look forward to many happy hours discussing our favourite subject. Below is a model of my future dream - house, pending a lottery win, modelled on an site plan from VIROCONIVM. Hope you like it! Ongoing projects include: Theatre, Temple, Cohort Fort ( SEGEDVNVM, Hadrians Wall).
