Re: New recruits - SOCL - 11-02-2006 Ah-ha! My friend Robert has arrived! A good fellow he is. If anyone gives him trouble, they'll have to answer to me. 8) Welcome to the forums, Sextus! Re: New recruits - marcii ulpi messala - 11-02-2006 Hello my name is Moncada Gabriel Martin and alive in the city of Seville, Andalusia (Spain) my work is very different from archeology or old history, without I always engage this has been my passion. In the first pleases to thank for the being admitted in your great forum on the Roman equipment military, and I hope know to excuses our terrible one English, in most of the cases we have had to resort to a translator of the network. We lack unfortunately superior studies on the subject and our liking is limited the text reading and the direct observation of the objects in museums and particular collections, under we hoped know to pardon the possible errors that surely that they observed in our commentaries on the Roman equipment military. Single I am a great fan to the Roman fighting equipment, unfortunately in Andalusia the liking by the historical reconstruction of this period is nonexistent here, reason why we have had to be satisfied to the book study and visits to the different museums. This page is now for us, one magnifies form to learn more on equipment and Roman armament. A warm greeting. Re: New recruits - Robert Vermaat - 11-02-2006 Hello Gabriel, Welcome to the forum. May all your questions be answered here. One thing - you must enter your name into the signature on your profile. It's a forum rule I'm afraid. Re: New recruits - UTCenturion - 11-02-2006 Gabriel, you are lucky to be able to find originals in Museums and such. In the United States it is very difficult to find originals and good books with originals in them. Welcome Gabriel - Primitivus - 11-03-2006 Quote:Gabriel, you are lucky to be able to find originals in Museums and such. In the United States it is very difficult to find originals and good books with originals in them.As Robert suggests, "everything is relative." Here in the States, Roman artifacts are few and far between!!! (Wow, two cliches in such a short message... I really must apologize.) Hi there! - Ioannis - 11-04-2006 My name is Ioannis Georganas and I'm an archaeologist from Greece. Although I'm interested in ancient warfare in general, I'm specialised in the Aegean Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Ages weapons and warfare. Re: New recruits - aitor iriarte - 11-04-2006 Bienvenido al RAT, Gabriel! Oops, I've asked you to add your first name too, elsewhere! Welcome to RAT, Ioannis! Aegean Late Bronze Age, Yihey! 8) Aitor Re: New recruits - Robert Vermaat - 11-04-2006 Welcome to the forum Iohannis. Be sure to find some folks who also specialise in that topic! Re: New recruits - Ioannis - 11-04-2006 Thanks for your warm welcome! Welcome Ioannis - Primitivus - 11-04-2006 Quote:My name is Ioannis Georganas and I'm an archaeologist from Greece. I look forward to learning from you, especially in the area of your expertise... Re: New recruits - Ioannis - 11-04-2006 Thanks Primitivus for you kind words. I also look forward to contributing to this fantastic site. Latin name - Ludens - 11-04-2006 Hey, I'm looking for a latin name for myself. I think is would be fun to translate my real name in latin + the city I live as cognomen. Just 1 little problem, I don't know latin  "Jo Vansteenkiste van Wervik (Viroviacum)" / "Joe of the stone coffin from Wervik" Would that be something like "Ioannis Lapisarcus (Lapis + arca?) Viroviacensis"? Or is that realy bad latin? ("Joe" doesn't have a latin translation I gues, but my patron saint is Johannes/John + "Steenkiste" was a little village in the dark ages, were my ancestors came from, so I presume I shouldn't translate it, but "Steenkistencis" sounds even worse then "Lapisarcus" ) Thanks in advance for the aid! Re: New recruits - TITVS SABATINVS AQVILIVS - 11-05-2006 Welcome aboard Jo! Can I suggest: Viromandus? Stated that the Viromandui were a people of the Gallia Belgica, and probably your city name comes from that? Vale, Re: New recruits - Ludens - 11-05-2006 Quote:Welcome aboard Jo! Can I suggest: Viromandus? Salve Titus, The Viromandui lived more south-east. Viroviacum was a smal vicus in the soutern Menapi-region, about halfway on the ancient roman road between Castellum Menapiorum (Cassel - France) and Turnacensium (Tournai - Belgium). The oldest name known name is Virovino (on the Peutinger map), according to the legend called after Verovos (="strong man"?), the chief of the village during the Bello Gallico. So "from Virovicum" can't realy be translated as "Viromandus" I think... But thanks for the suggestion! For my nomen gentile I was thinking about "Sarcofagus" ("stone coffin"), more as inside joke... Vale, Ioannus Re: New recruits - Jeroen Pelgrom - 11-06-2006 Welcome to RAT! |
