I have had great results lately with "Gorilla Glue", It seems to have a strong adhesion. I have used it on bone, and recently, a cracked wrist on my Long Land Bess. It "expands" when it sets and really gets into the nooks and crannies. If its not available to you over there, I would be happy to send yoou a bottle.

Through my local Lowes Home Improvement, I can get the 2 ounce for $4.98 USD....roughly 2 pounds 50 p. The bigger are 18 ounce for 18.94 USD...if it would save you cash I'll send you what I have left....roughly 2/3rd's full 2 ounce size. I cant imagine shipping being all that much.

Hi,

Although a book that concerns the Middle Ages, Der Mittelalterliche Reiterschild from Jan Kohlmorgen, might be of help. If I remember correctly (as I don’t have a copy on my at present to verify this), he mentions various types of glues (most of them made out of natural materials) used for connecting the individual boards of a shield. It does not seem unlikely that a natural glue that is sufficiently strong for a shield, may also work on bone.

I hope this will help.

Best wishes,

Martijn

Thanks every one, Wes I have seen Gorrilla glue in a excellent store in Ebarcvm York only one problem it is brown unless it dries clear or white. Martijn thanks for that ,I was doing hours of research looking at bone handles and a good majority is made from pieces so they must have had a excellent glue to keep them together ,otherwise they wouldnt of used the material. Thanks once again ,keep them coming Big Grin

Gorilla Glue is a polyurethane glue- quite strong indeed but be wary, it does expand (it foams slightly) as part of its action, so use it sparingly. Bone glue, I've read, is actually not particularly strong and isn't considered in the same league as, say, hide glue is. Hide glue might be your best non-synthetic choice- it can actually be used to artistically 'chip' glass- spread it on glass, let dry, and can bond so well that removing it will actually pull or chip bits of glass away with the glue in the manner that carpenter's glue will break wood away from a joint rather than the glue itself failing. Commerical liquid hide glue isn't a good choice though as it has synthetic retardants in it to keep it liquid at room temperature and these reduce its strength. The stuff that comes as crystalline powder, that you hydrate and melt is just great though...
