Help: lorica hamata - Gaius - 08-13-2007

Salvete
I have a problem. I recently got the Find-It ferrata hamata and i can not push the button shafts trough the double layer of rings. Has anybody here this hamata with the find-it buttons? It apparently seems that the shafts are either short or too big...

Thank you and best regards

What double layer of shirts do you want to put the buttons through?

Most people don't rivet the doubling directly to the vest. They add a ring to the lower buttons and use a leather string to tie the doubling in place on the shirt. You can see this system on this picture, which was taken by Peronis (Adrian Wood), so the credit goes to him.

This system works very well. I hope this helps to solve your problem.

Kind regards,
Jef

The buttons from the Find-It hamata have a screwed shaft that is purported to go trough the rings; the lower buttons secure the doublings, whereas the other two are utilized for the hooks. So, the former two buttons must go trough a double layer of rings, the layer of the doubling and the layer of the hamata shirt. These two are the ones that i am not able to put in place.

Good system that showed in the pic. Maybe i will try to replicate it.

Re: Help: lorica hamata - SOCL - 08-13-2007

I have the Find-It hamata. The screws only went through one layer for me; i.e. two on the doubler and one on the hamata chest-area. The problem with the screws is that they come undone VERY easily--I nearly lost my hooks because of them during a parade, so be very careful if using them.

I have this hamata. The screws/buttons do not go through two layers completely, but enough to do the job. I have to check them periodically though while wearing the hamata.

When I had a hamata from Find-It, I used two sets of channel locks to tighten them, and had no problems there after.

Re: Help: lorica hamata - arklore70 - 08-21-2007

A quick fix method I am using until I get my new hook and button set made by Matt Lukes was to go to the local hardware store "Home Depot" and purchase a set of 4 1/4 inch flat washer and 4 Number 10 fine screws at 3/4 inch in length.

The shaft of the screw fits though the mail rings and allows the button to be screw in, and tightly.

Not exactly period, but it works and is invisible to the public eye. Total cost in four washers and four screws was like 1.25 USD.

A different method in case you dont have channel locks.

Hope this is helpful,
Mike

Fantastic advise, Mike! I'm off to Home Depot now! Big Grin

Re: Help: lorica hamata - Gaius - 08-21-2007

Yeah, it is a very good idea, at least for the time until the new hook and buttons arrive Big Grin D . The final configuration will be i think that one proposed by Marcus/Peroni.
