fitting and Padding out a helmet - VGallus - 11-21-2007 Salve! I am very new to this but have a few helmet questions. 1) Is there a way to squish the helmet in on the sides and get it to hold its shape? I have a long oval head and get a real headache. The helmet pivots on my head front to back. 2) Padding it out is another problem. I was going with linen but if I can't fix the shape problem, may have to go with thin leather. Any suggestions other than getting a custom made helmet? Ave, Valerius Gallus Legio XXII Re: fitting and Padding out a helmet - Gaius Julius Caesar - 11-21-2007 I take it you have a deepeeka? Same problem I guess, but I have not tried squishing them yet, although others have. I would suggest constructing the lining carefuly, making it thinner front and back, a little thicker on the sides? I know thay are limited in room, and too much padding front and back just makes the head ache :? ( Mind you, I have just purchased the new Theilenhoffen helmet from Peronis/Daniyell Steelcrafts, and there is heaps of room for padding it out!!
