Hitite axes and other weapons - Iagoba - 11-25-2007

They are at Alava´s Armoury Museum, Vitoria-Gasteiz,in N of Spain.
The museum is very old fashioned and lacks research everywhere. :x
I would like to ask your opinion about those "Hittite" weapons, bought in the 60´s to antiquarians by the museum´s founder. They are a fake, or misclassified?
There are also plenty of "Persian" swords, but I haven´t got photos yet.

Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, I´ll take some better photos of the whole museum soon!

Hittite as in Bronze Age c. 1000 BC and all that? I really love the Bronze Age and am heavily into it right now, but I just haven't studied the Hittites at all. That last axe is very likely correct, since I have seen things like that. The mace looks familiar, too--I vaguely remember a very similar stone mace head. Can't really tell you about the other axe (shown with the mace), but there are certainly some very wild axe types being used in Asia Minor and the Mid-East during the Bronze Age! Mind you, these could very well be from some other culture and not the Hittites, but I wouldn't say they're fakes offhand. That whole region has been a strip-mine for antiquities looters for centuries.

Is that a helmet at the bottom of the case? LOVE to see better photos of it! (If you have trouble focusing at close range, try moving back as far as you can and zooming in. You can also shoot 4 or 5 photos of the same piece from different angles, and delete any that are not good!)

Vale,

Matthew

I suspect it's the Greek(?) helmet shown here:
