Roman cavalry harness - LUCIUS ALFENUS AVITIANUS - 03-31-2008 Hello, I'm currently making a roman cavalry harness. It's a lot of work. First i have to make the pieces in wax. Then, i have made a mould: ![]() Then we have to cast a lot of pieces in wax, using that moulds. ![]() Then, we give the wax pieces to a profesional, who makes them in bronze. Then, we have to file, etc, until get the finished bronze piece. ![]() The next step, is to silvered the pieces and enamel the decorations. To be continued... There are more than a hundred pieces by harness. The picture only covers the buckles, the "t" clasps, and the connectors for the phalerae. Lacks the phalerae, decorative terminals, nielloed studs, etc... The motivation for do it myself is that if i have to buy it, it will costs over 10.000 euros. Just do the multiplication. The leather alone will also set you back some major euro's and I shudder at the amount of stitching involved!
