Re: Show your subarmalis! - Marcus Mummius - 12-24-2008 Quote:I have a question for all of you who used felt in your subarmalis . . . how does it do in the heat? I live in an area (the US Midwest) where it gets very hot and very humid in the summertime, and some wools are ok (in fact, some are great summer-wear), but some are an absolute disaster. Until now I survived without too much discomfort Last year I marched in the sun through Rome with a 40 degree fever, a wool tunic, on top of that a subarmalis with two layers of linen and 4 layers of felt and a bearskin on top of that. You just have to make sure you drink a lot and all will be okay Re: Show your subarmalis! - Oisin - 12-24-2008 Hydration is key. I've been into athletics and outdoors activities long enough that I'm fully aware of that. Re: Show your subarmalis! - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 01-07-2009 http://sander.grandtrunk.net/SandrvsCastvs I have finished the edging of the subarmalis itself, now I'm busy with (the edging of) the shoulder pieces. I've been wearing it on a really tiny event (you don't want the details, we almost died of boredom; about 50 visitors  ), and it fits quite well. Only I should get a slightly smaller tunica I suppose, as all this extra fabric isn't really comfortable to get under the subarmalis. But if I can "spread" it good enough around my body, it'll do I guess. Re: Show your subarmalis! - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-07-2009 You will get the beer belly look like I do.... Re: Show your subarmalis! - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 01-07-2009 Yeah, but with me it's just the look... Re: Show your subarmalis! - Gaius Julius Caesar - 01-07-2009 Sadly closer to the trueth! Nice work on the sub. Re: Show your subarmalis! - M. Demetrius - 01-08-2009 Quote:Yeah, but with me it's just the look... LaughingGotta give a laud for that, too. Well done, eh GJC? Re: Show your subarmalis! - jvrjenivs - 01-08-2009 good work Sander. Very nice. Re: Show your subarmalis! - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 02-25-2009 Ta-da-da-da-daaaaah! It's - believe it or not - finished! http://sander.grandtrunk.net/SandrvsCastvs Hours and hours and hours... but it was worth it. I didn't work on it for about a month, but a holiday can do wonders... lol: Re: Show your subarmalis! - Marcus Mummius - 02-25-2009 Looks great Sander. If it's my size you'd better start watching your back, a gladius thrust is so easily misplaced   Re: Show your subarmalis! - Titvs Statilivs Castvs - 02-25-2009 That's noted: Look... out... for... sub-... ar-... malis. And... hel-... met... Re-... member... to... bite off... fin-... gers... when... some-... one... tou-... ches... [size=80:c13eca9b]My... I really like how the design looks in the end. Note that I put it on with little care as I just received it from our groups dressmaker, so my squamata and phalerae aren't that nicely alligned. Also I had to tie up the tunic and take off my pants of course. But yeah, it was only for a quick picture. Next to improve in my centurio kit is the helmet. Re: Show your subarmalis! - Virilis - 03-12-2010 Wow Jürjen, looks great hock: ! It has a kind of "Graham Sumnerish" flavour to it too  ... Re: Show your subarmalis! - Marcus Mummius - 03-12-2010 Nice work! |
