Simplex Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Simplex - 04-17-2009 Back to serious reporting. The HNA feature says: Caracalla 1, Elagabal 3, Severus Alexander 2 so I was wrong there, Mar. Sorry  Goodnight Simplex Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Mar - 04-18-2009 Take a look at this beauty: [url:2v6lv0f3]http://www.abendblatt.de/daten/2009/04/18/1126572.html Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Gaius Julius Caesar - 04-18-2009 Hmmm, very nice!! Is it Roman or German? Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Simplex - 04-18-2009 ....hmmmm ... ...well at least Dr. Lönne seems to be undoubtedly German. But seriously: A bit further up Mar has already marked the arrowtip/speartip as being germanic. But let's wait till "scolarly discussion" sets on again 'bout that ..... 8) Simplex Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - M. Demetrius - 04-18-2009 If we're talking about the one held in the hand, it's a mighty big arrowpoint. I think I'd opt for a javelin or throwing spear. But what do I know? I don't even speak German. :? lol: Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Mar - 04-18-2009 Quote:Astonishing how well preserved some of those spearheads and pugio finds are! The pugio almost looks like one you'd buy today from any one of several suppliers. The enamel dots are missing, but other than that--pristine! AFAIK a Pugio wasn´t found there, I guess you are confusing it with one of the Hedemuenden finds? By the way: The spearhead is the same as in [url:2tnm4fcf]http://www1.ndr.de/nachrichten/niedersachsen/schlachtfeld106.html Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - M. Demetrius - 04-19-2009 Well, from one or the other of those links, containing a list of pictures, I snagged this one. Maybe it was from another place, I don't know, and couldn't relocate the source. But here is the pugio I mentioned. Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Mar - 04-19-2009 Yeah, this one was found near Hedemuenden by Dr. Grote [url:21ldk70a]http://www.grote-archaeologie.de/roemer.html Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - M. Demetrius - 04-19-2009 Thanks for the correction. All are amazing finds. With all the lost items, the Roman blacksmiths must have been kept pretty busy, don't you think? Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Simplex - 04-19-2009 ........"industry" is a word with Latin roots. Greez Simplex Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Robert Vermaat - 04-19-2009 ... and fabricae IS a contemporary Latin word.. Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Simplex - 04-20-2009 ....Kalefeld on TV this evening (CEST!) on NDR Fernsehen "KulturJournal" 22.30 Uhr . New sensational finds near Kalefeld -- on roman tracks (? :? ) The KulturJournal is (was) there at the presentation of the finds.
