Yes, video says they left "all" the weapons "on" the ground.

Well, as there were quite a number of bolt-heads maybe it would be more accurate to say they left them "in" the ground.

I don't understand german , but the speaker seems to speak about Varo's legions and Theotoburg.
Are there some links between this new discovery and Theotoburg battle?

- part of a "messerfutteral" of a dagger
- key
- dolabra(e?)
- axe
- shovel
- hipposandal (with carvings on it)
- sandal-nails
- ...

First statements from the press conference (only in German)

www.pr-inside.com/de/roemer-nach-niederlage-im-teutoburger-wald-r967845.htm

In short words: around 1.000 Roman legionaries between 180 - 260 AD victorious. Dr. Moosbauer (Archaeologist from Kalkriese):"... may-be a revenge-campaign in 235 AD against Alamanni after a raid across the limes in Hessia, at the Roman side also Syrian archers involved ..."

Excellent pictures.
My exact thoughts Peronis.

What is that large round Item on the square base?

Also, I wonder if that spike wit hthe ring was used to tether a horse to a tree?

not sure if we mean the same one but on 3sat they said it was part of some cart. The other is what you call "Hering" in German: a tent peg

Re: Roman battlefield found deep inside Germany - Peroni - 12-15-2008

The swan headed "wagenkastenaufhängung" ring fitting looks like a terret ring of sorts perhaps for the guidance of reins.
