Boeotian Hat - nikolaos - 12-29-2009

While Joe Paella was making me a Boeotian helmet based on the Theseus vase (which you'll see in my icon) I made a Boeotian Hat to use as a liner. The embroidered decoration is based on the cap in the Arisition stele, which I have inlcuded for reference.

My interpretation as a Boeotian cap:

Enjoy!

And a good job on the cap! Wool felt? Hand embroidered, too. Wow. Very nice.

Re: Boeotian Hat - Gregory J. Liebau - 10-21-2010

This is an old post, but I just have to comment and say that that is a fine hat. I've made some felt hats using simple multi-piece construction, and have stitched pre-existing trim onto some... But this is some quality work. Well done!

Re: Boeotian Hat - Matthew Amt - 10-22-2010

That *is* nice work, but isn't that relief a broken-off depiction of a Corinthian helmet, pushed back on the head? So the "embroidery" is just a little embossing between the cheekpiece and the neckguard.

Sorry, don't want to be a wet blanket...

I've come to believe that too Matt. But that doesn't neccessarily obviate the decorative element on the hat Wink

Attic pottery, 440-490 BC from the Great Northern Museum.

The bottom one is a helmet by the Achilles painter, but good to include here.
