Largest units / Biggest events ? - jkaler48 - 02-16-2010

OK it's just curiosity but what are the top five or ten worldwide events and units in terms of "boots in the field"?

Marle (France) hopes to have 170 soldiers (so thats 2 full centuries) on the field this year. (excluding civilians)
Xanten (Germany) has also always a lot groups attending, but not on the field as one big bunch of men. Don't know how many attendants they regularly have, though.

Corbidge 2009 had pretty much a full Century plus Auxilia contingent and cavalry - but not a regular event alas!

Yes, we need more like that Sulla!

The Nimijen event sounds like it will be a big one, though.
Any ideas on participant numbers?

I expect you mean Nijmegen. This year Nijmegen will not yet beat 80 soldiers, unfortunately. But yeah, the idea is to become a big one eventually.

D&*n, I knew the 'J' should have gone there....

I was hoping to go, but will be working, unless I can work a compromise.

I Shall be there even if it means swimming in full kit accross the Med, and hiking up to the homeland LOL (Pretty standard stuff for a Batavian 8) )

Namen/Namur had a very large amount of soldiers. I don't know the exact number, but you can try to count them in the pictures  I think there were about 165 soldiers.

Namur 2009 was held in the weekend of 26 and 27 September 2009.

Most of those pictures were taken by friends of the french Legio VIII. Here are more http://www.leg8.com/2009/namur.php

Best regards,
Jef

Re: Largest units / Biggest events ? - Gaius Julius Caesar - 02-16-2010

Funny just looking at the photos the line up looks the same as Corbridge last year, but you have twice the number.
Wish all events were to the same scale! (or bigger.... Smile )

Re: Largest units / Biggest events ? - Robert - 02-18-2010

I am amazed they dared a mock charge with drawn weapons in such tight packed quarters. If someone trips, that is a great way of putting a sword through someone else's leg ( or worse :? ). Closing up on the public in formation and charging with just the front rank would make that display a lot safer, with the same impact. Wonderfull lineups, mind you!!
