Corinthian and Illyrian Helmets in Glasgow Museums - Ross Cowan - 02-27-2010

Glasgow Museums has five ancient bronze helmets in its collections: two Corinthians, an Illyrian, a Montelparo and a Montefortino (see Ancient Warfare I.3 for details). The helmets are kept in storage, but I was able to take some photos while working in the Arms and Armour collection back in 2004/5.I have posted sets of the helmets here:

There is a corinthian helmet of similar style in the Aberdeen Art Gallery war memorial.
It is not in as good a condition, but definately of a similar if not older age.
Nice pictures!

Thanks! Smile

I'm not sure about the date of the Scott bequest Corinthian - mid-7th cent. BC?

Much sharper pics of the Illyrian-type helmet and the Burrell Corinthian can be found in Ancient Warfare I.3.

And the final set, a Corinthian helmet in the Burrell Collection:

Again, not the best photos, but they may be of interest to some.
