Crest holders / Sidon helmet - Theodosius the Great - 09-01-2010 Hello, I'm wondering if there have been crest holders, similar to the pins used on imperial Roman helmets, found in a non-Roman, Greco-Hellenistic context. The Sidon helmet would appear to have such a holder based on this frescoe : http://www.ancientbattles.com/thureopho ... phoros.jpg Does anyone not think that the soldier is using a holder or pin to attach the crest ? Thanks in advance. ~Theo Re: Crest holders / Sidon helmet - PMBardunias - 09-01-2010 I admit to not knowing much about roman attachments, but the horn-shaped projections on Tarantine and other Magna Grecian pilos helms are secured by a pin. |
