Caligula\'s tomb discovered - Jona Lendering - 01-19-2011

This may become interesting, although I still have some doubts.

Interesting indeed, Jona, thanks for the post. As you say, there have been quite a few leaps of faith already to come to the conclusion. And since when are police (of any nationality) best placed to make such a pronouncement?

I would like to think Caligula's tomb has been found, but I think too many people have jumped to conclusions. Just because the headless statue wears caligae doesn't mean the statue is of Caligula, since there are other statues of emporers dressed in military attire. It's very likely that one or more archaeologists are trying to get funding. Regardless of whether or not the area actually holds Caligula's tomb, I'm sure the area is probably a very interesting treasure trove of artifacts.

Also, I wasn't aware that Caligula had a tomb. I was under the impression he didn't receive a funeral. Was he even given a funeral befitting an emperor?

Others are expressing no doubts:

This isn't Caligula's Tomb
